My week 3 individual tutorial with Kevin helped me to understand how Thursdays Newsday will run, as our first Newsday of this year. My role as Radio Producer will include me providing the radio presenter with the information they need and help to draft a script, and assisting the radio bulletin editor Amy. I’m looking forward to Thursday to gain some experience in this role and generally get back in the swing of Newsdays.
The tutorial also helped me gain some confidence in approaching possible mentors, which I have an idea of who, but not what kind of way to go about asking. I have now starting drafting emails and messages to send to the people who I think would be great mentors, who have experience in the industry, for my third year of study. The challenges I’ve overcome is my initial reluctance to approach people and also talk about the issues I’m having with my lecturer. Talking about it definitely helped me overcome some of the fears I have about putting myself forward to potential mentors.
