Newsday-Thursday 15th

On Thursday we had a Newsday, my role was news reporter which was great as it’s a role I haven’t done before so I was eager to get out of the newsroom and produce something interesting. Kevin had mentioned a story the day before which I was interested in, though I didn’t really get chance to do that on Thursday as it would have taken more planning than I had done and was more suited to something I could do at the weekend when I could get a lift. (The story was based in St Austell.)

However, a friend and I did produce an audio piece that morning, for the radio news team on the subject of the Journalism social which was carried out on Thursday night. It was a fun and great way to meet other people on different years of the course and encourage them to go! The night was definitely a success.

On Saturday, I went to St Austell to find the Banksy style artwork scattered around the town centre which I was planning to create a video (possibly voxpop) about. However, the weather was very windy and cold and many of the public I approached didn’t want to be interviewed on camera so in the end I managed to get a few audio interviews and some video and images of the artwork and town centre. With this I want to put together a feature focusing on the question: Is this style of graffiti vandalism or artwork? I would like to also get a quote from Cornwall council about this subject to add depth to the feature.

It’s unfortunate that this didn’t turn out the way I had hoped but even with the planning I carried out leading up to Saturday but I’m looking forward to trying to get some video material in the next couple of weeks.
